Here is the difference in sizes, not significant IMO, I wonder if it looks right to you guys and if I did it right in Photoshop. That's my take unless I am completely wrong. while The Epson can print larger, it can do it at a weird/uncommon crop ratio.

The 13 by 19" print ratio of Pro 1 is the equivalent of the popular 2 by 3 crop ratio of most digital cameras, so. Besides, the 17 by 22" print ratio of Epson is actually kind of weird. Actually very close, Epsons print size in not that much bigger than Canons. But after comparing the 2 print sizes digitally in PS, they seem very close toe ach other in terms of size. The main pro for Epson 3880 is the bigger print size. While the Epson 3880 is the same price with rebates as the Pro 1, I read that Epson 3880 is kind of dated, that's why I am leaning more towards Pixma Pro 1. (similar to Canon Printer Pro plugin?)Ģ) Is Epson's lower print resolution compared to Pro 1 an issue?ģ) I see that Epsons cartridges are significantly larger, (2x larger than Canon's) how long will they last before they need a change? (I would print about 1 large print and maybe 2 small prints a week on average). The 3 things I really want to make sure before deciding is this though.ġ) Does Epson come with Photoshop Plugin program that allows us to customize all the printing characteristics within Photoshop. Hasselblads + Leaf Aptus MFDB, Fuji X100, Epson 3880/9890īespoke, you said that Epson is good for B&W but I have read that Pro 1 is pretty much the best out there for B&W right now. if you don't need the larger prints and don't plan on printing a lot then i would suggest the R3000ĥD3 & 5D2s | 24 TS-E II, 24-70 II, 85L II, 100L, 70-200L II, 35 & 85 Zeiss ZE, Samyang 14, Sigma 50 I can answer any specific questions you have about the epson 3880. Yes you can print from any program with the epson print module (LR, PS)

and a big plus is that you get 1 year of the professional customer service and warranty because it falls under the pro series of printers (i messed up my printer and they overnighted me a refurbed one with a full set of inks)

epson also has great deals on papers a couple times a year such as buy 2 get 1 free deals. the signature worthy series of papers are of very good quality. epson has a MUCH better native paper selection. if you plan on using the odd roll and cutting them you'll find most rolls come in 17 inch minimum width. i doubt anyone here has first hand experience with both printers.Ī few of the things i like about the epson: i would suggest heading over to the getDPI forums and doing further research on both printers as theyre much more knowledgeable. i don't know much about the canon but the epson is an absolute workhorse and has been the standard in the professional printing community for that size for the past few years. if you plan to print a lot of black and whites then from what i've read the epson will be better in that regard. Lighting - 3 x 600EX RT's, Printer - Epson 3880 I don't know if Epson has such/or even needs such good integration with Photoshop.Īny other points that I am missing? Any advice highly appreciated ! ).ģ) Epson has 80ml cartridges while the Canon has only 35ml.Ĥ) i know that Canon has a Photoshop plugin (canon printer pro) that allows to print directly from photoshop. (or so I understood from product description, not sure. I am going to be printing exclusively photographs, mostly portraits, sometimes B&W.ġ) One one hand I am leaning towards Canon as all my products (camera related) are Canon but on the other hand the Epson 3880 can print bigger size images (that's kind of a big deal).Ģ) The Pixma Pro 1 comes only with half full cartridges at $1,000 while the Epson comes with full cartridges at $960. The question is fairly simple, which one of these 2 printers should I get, the Pixma Pro 1 or the Epson 3880/R3000.Īs I am a complete newb to printing (not photography though) I would really like to hear some knowledgeable feedback.
